Kitka Kollektiivi: Same same but different
Three dance artists make up the Helsinki-based Kitka Kollektiivi: Katriina Kantola, Iiris Raipala and Elina Valtonen. Through various motional structures (‘scores’), their performance Same Same But Different explores similarity and difference – how to be a part of a community without losing your individuality.
"Even though fixating on one truth and surrounding yourself with like-minded people create an illusion of security and a sense of power, they also mean the end to dialogue. In their performance, Kitka Kollektiivi use movement to explore the intense polarisation currently prevailing in the world.
In restless times, people seek security and power from those who think like them. Social media allows extreme views to spread without criticism towards their sources and thus allows different groups to go against each other, without ever meeting each other and unable to have reasonable discussions. The dance artists in the Kitka collective are also aware of similar cliques within the art field. Often, we reach out to familiar contacts and reinforce the existing networks for cooperation."
The duration of the performance is approximately 30 minutes. Free entry.
